  • Sampler of two lines of alphabet "A...Z", number sequence "1...9", followed by six diamonds, yellow, green, purple, blue thread. Fourth line is six .5" triangles in line left to right. Fifth and sixth lines are verse in a large design in center with green lines. Below all is the maker's name and alphabet.

  • Elizabeth Rhodes born 21 October 1766 in Newport, R.I. married Joseph Rawson (1760-1835) in 1785 he was a Revoultionary War Veteran (Lt. Srgt.) and a prominent Providence furniture maker. The RIHS has several of Joseph Rawson's furniture pieces. The RIHS also has a sampler sewn ca. 1811 by their daughter Hannah R. Rawson (1801-1883) see 1982.39.3
