  • Large painted palimpore with bottom edge of peacocks and vegetation in red, blue, brown with cream ground and upper portion dominated by three trees with branches and florals in same colors. The back in linen. Has a stamp of UEIC for United East India Company.

Research Notes:
  • Cross stitch stands for Penelope Lippitt whose marriage occurred in 1783. She was Penelope Low Lippitt (1758 - 1839) and she and Charles Lippitt lived in Cranston. Charles Lippitt was a General in the Revolutionary War, the son of Katharine Holden Lippitt (1717-1807) and Colonel Christopher Lippitt (1712-1764). The RIHS has Katherine Holden's sampler in the collections see 1962.7.3
