Description:

This "memento mori" sampler is a memorial to Mrs. Elizabeth Seamans. A detailed weeping willow overhangs a monument topped by urn with an monogram "E S" and an inscription "Mrs. Elizabeth Seamans, departed / this life October, 12th, 1795, / aged 55 Years". The grass and shrub are stitched with silk chenille thread, the rest of the sampler is stitched with silk thread on a silk ground.
Stitches: Satin, Stem, Straight, Couched. Colors: Black, Blue, Brown, Gold, Green, Tan, White, Yellow.
