Notes:
  • In 1769 and 1770 a contest was conducted by several of the towns being considered for the permanent site of the college. A portion of this subscription was designated as unconditional while the remaining sum was offered on the condition that Providence be selected as the permanent site.
  • Date conjectured by Alden on basis of fact that Bennett was Treasurer of the college from 1767 to 1775. John Carter was the only printer active at Providence at this time. Names of the subscribers and the amounts pledged printed in two columns. John Carter Brown Library holds only complete copy. R.I. Historical Society holds fragment that contains handwriting of Moses Brown which dates imprint to 1769.
